The brief was to create new work, either on our own or in collaboration with each other, which would reflect our research and responses to the house, its grounds, and the urban parkland within which it lies.
Layers were peeled back, connections established and histories were revealed: Valentines was uncovered.
This was the first time the Mansion had welcomed art students to the site, and grateful thanks are due to Nigel Burch, the Restoration Project Manager, Simon Marshall, Public Arts Officer for Redbridge Council, Anne Eggebert, Tutor at Central Saint Martins and all the staff at the Mansion.
The Mansion
Built around 1696, the Mansion had a series of owners and residents throughout the centuries. It lay derelict for approximately 15 years until 2007, when an extensive restoration programme was undertaken with Redbridge council and the Heritage Lottery funding. The Mansion opened to the Public on 14th February 2009.
